What is the pleasure of spiritual practice? How often are pleasurable experiences accompanied by the sobering awareness that they will pass? Being distracted by temptation, seeking future amusement, and dwelling on past gratification are all sources of unhappiness. The Buddha was aware of the danger of these types of pleasure, yet was able to find pleasure in spiritual practice that was not a source of suffering. In this inspiring dharma discourse, Ryushin Sensei discusses the Buddha's acceptance of spiritual pleasure and urges us to find this joy in our own practice.
