Zen Master Dogen's 300 Koan Shobogenzo: Case 90
Using as the starting point of this talk a dramatic riverside encounter between two ancient Zen masters, Abbot Loori examines the nature of the teacher-student relationship. Because Zen is an ancestral lineage trasmitted mind-to-mind from generation to generation from the time of Shakyamuni Buddha, the teacher-student relationship is of crucial significance to the process of training and realization. Abbot Loori uses moving anecdotes from his own training to underline the power and intimacy of a genuine teacher-student connection, and its capacity to let us discover for ourselves the truth that is not like something.
