Koans of the Way of Reality: Case 108
Our usual way of perceiving and interpreting the world is dualistic. The gap created through separation quickly fills our attitudes and postures. Jealousy, greed, neediness, aversion, and disregard arrive and multiply, plunging us into the turmoil of uneasiness and confusion. Tossed by the polarities created by desire we arrive at the threshold of Buddha's First Noble Truth. Life is suffering. But there is also a way out of suffering. Master Dogo points it out. Thoroughly appreciating the truth of this life, neither discarding anything, nor attaching to anything, we are able to resolve the burden of suffering and return to our entire, limitless potential. Master Dogo's teachings echo the Third Ancestor's words, "The Great Way is not difficult. It only avoids picking and choosing."
