Permanent Principle--What Is Death?

Permanent Principle--What Is Death?

The Book of Equanimity: Case 75
With deepening meditative practice, the apparent solidity and continuity of experience dissolves into a flickering appearance and disappearance of moments. The opaque becomes transparent, stasis yields to ceaseless flowing, concreteness becomes insubstantiality. What remains of self and reality is unhindered flux with no beginning and no end. There are no constraints. So, how is it that Zuigan arrives at his permanent principle? What is the constancy that allows his life to transform into one continuous joyful dance, a breathless journey of wonder?

What makes the impermanence bearable is the stable background on which we ceaselessly fall apart. It is the experience of Zuigan's permanent principle that turns our suffering into a boundless sea of compassion. Once we encounter and cultivate it, we are walking hand in hand with Zuigan and all the masters throughout time and space.
