Zazen is often misunderstood as being meditation, or some form of contemplation or introspection. Actually zazen is a time of non-doing, a practice of acceptance with the whole body and mind. Even if our sitting is difficult emotionally or physically, zazen is about not turning away from any of it. Something happens just from keeping our seats; zazen shows us that in all moments, there is a place to enter into reality. We need to understand that zazen is not an exercise or technique that's separate from the teachings. Zazen is the teachings, and to study the way is to do zazen.
