Koans of the Way of Reality: Taju's "More Wondrous Than Nature"
When we believe in the illusion of a self that exists separately from everything around it, we lose the ability to see the reality of it. The environment becomes "a cause," instead of a living being, a part of ourselves, in need of help. Viewed in this way, we can never do anything to alleviate suffering-ours or this great earth's. In this talk, Daido Roshi calls on us to revise our mission statement to include the earth-not our idea of it, but the reality itself-which includes us.
