Trust the Mystery—Dharma Discourse (Audio)

True Dharma Eye, Case 241: Xuansha "Hears the Sound of a Swallow"
What is the meaning of a bird's song? How do we understand the love we feel for a child? Our ideas about the meaning of things-our constant craving to finally know and understand something-can get in the way of experiencing the joy and immediacy of life. Every moment presents us the opportunity to see with fresh eyes, to appreciate what cannot be explained, to be awake and alive to our hearts.

The downside of being a student of the subject like me is I am largely ignorant of the history, personalities, and subtleties of which this fellow, Loori, speaks. Yet the same innocence and ignorance is also the upsides. In other words, Loori comes across as fresh, authentic, and very capable as a teacher with something to say that is interesting and worth pondering. As for what I learned, well, get this talk and listen for yourself. That, I believe, is the point of the bird's song.
