Along with Great Faith and Great Determination, Great Doubt is one of the three pillars of Zen. But it is often misunderstood. The deepest questions that arise out of our spiritual practice create a tension-or doubt-that cannot be resolved by intellect or analysis. When our "not-knowing" mind is activated and nurtured, it has the potential to deepen our aspiration and enliven our practice, keeping it fresh and leaving us open to discovery.
