Koans of the Way of Reality: The National Teacher's Fruit
One of the Buddha's most enigmatic sayings is, "I have nothing to teach." Yet he taught his students wholeheartedly for over forty years, so what exactly did he mean? Buddhist teachers throughout history have refused to spoon feed their students. In not offering us anything, our teachers are actually being quite generous; their trust in us allows us to learn how to trust ourselves and really be ourselves. How is it possible for our teachers to give us anything when we already possess everything we need? Our teachers are there to show us how to offer our whole body and mind to the this life, and to learn that the true teacher is already within us.
