True Dharma Eye Case 154: Nanquan's Sickle
Zen is everywhere these days: on the Internet, on television, even behind the perfume counter. Yet although Zen has permeated our culture, it's not necessarily the authentic Zen handed down from the ancestors. This is the case even in Western Zen centers, and particularly in many books on Zen. In this spirited talk, Daido Roshi takes to task some of the prevailing myths of Zen practice, from common misconceptions about key Zen concepts to clichéd answers to koans. Daido Roshi encourages us to look past the images of Zen to our own authentic experience, and urges us to embody the true teachings in our practice and everyday life.
