Gateless Gate, Case 34: Wisdom Is Not Tao
To take up the path of Zen is to head into the wilderness of reality. While there are teachings, practices, guidelines, and forms to support us, ultimately this journey is ours alone. If we hold on to the forms, if we cling to the ideas, if we mistake belief in the teachings for the Way, then we've gone off course. To truly practice, we even have to let go of our cherished notions of wisdom and compassion, resting instead in a deep trust of our own experience.
