Yoga for Meditators

Yoga for Meditators

RECOMMENDED
By Charlotte Bell. Few disciplines complement zazen as yoga does, and in fact, as Iyengar Yoga teacher Charlotte Bell points out, asana practice was originally developed to prepare the body for seated meditation. In this clear and useful primer, Bell offers easy-to-follow instructions and illustrations of a series of poses that will help you become limber and relax into the seated posture. Paperback, 128 pages.

Sadly, this book did not meet expectations. It is a basic yoga book (much of the content can be found in any yoga text and is not specific to sitting practice) and not particularly geared toward preparation for meditation. While it does cover the basics of meditation postures quite well and does cover introductory yoga quite thoroughly, I did not find the intersection to be strong - the simple sequence suggestions for yoga stretches to aid in sitting practices that I found done quite well in The Hip Series book. I much preferred the latter! Thus, this book really does not offer anything new that you can't find, and probably have found already, elsewhere. Can not recommend.
