LOVE this! Excellent work and the perfect size to keep anywhere.

Does anyone know what kind of wood this made from?

For anyone who wants to know, the characters read "Amida Rulai" in Chinese, a rendering of the Sanskrit "Amitabha Tathagata." I found the workmanship and artistic sensitivity of this little Buddha rupa to be superb.

This is a very cool, finely crafted item; more so than what I first suspected. So I'm back a week after receiving the first one I purchased to obtain more. I had thought this might be like a wooden "poker chip"-style item with the picture showing front and back, but am delight to discover that the picture actually depicts the "insides" of two halves that fit tightly together to form a smooth wooden gem. Its like the perfect "skipping stone" only made of wood, which opens to reveal this marvelous Buddha Amitabha (Amida).
